Chamber music

František Kantor

  • played in the opera orchestra of the National Theatre in Brno (piccolo player, 1st flutist), at present he is a solopiccolist of the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra
  • associate professor at the Faculty of Music, JAMU in Brno
  • focuses intensively on chamber music - he is a member of the Foerster Wind Quintet, the baroque ensemble Camerata brunae and performs with the classical guitar player Vladislav Bláha and with the orchestra Czech Virtuosi. His is active also in other music genres - jazz, folk, pop and avant-garde music
  • has been recording for the Czech radio and television

Tuition description

In his lessons, he will concentrate not only on methodology (tone making, breathing, dynamics versus intonation, finger technique), but also on issues of understanding of a music work structure. Piccolo lessons with emphasis on solo and orchestral repertoire are a part of his master class. He gives a lecture on baroque music interpretation with focus on free variations.

  • professor of oboe playing and vice-dean at the Faculty of Music, Janacek Academy of Music and performing Arts in Brno
  • member of the Prague Wind Quintet and of the Janacek Ensemble
  • award holder of prestigious price of French critics „Choc du Monde de la Musique 1999“
  • has recorded for Czech Radio, Byelorussian Radio, RAI, Radio France and for renowned labels (Supraphon, Panton, Harmonia Mundi, Tokuma, Classic, Allegro)

Tuition description

The master classes are recommended for high school and university students and are intended to prepare for entrance examination at conservatories and music academies in the Czech Republic as well as abroad. Classes are focused on tone aesthetics and problems of finger- and breath technique of an oboe player.

Programme: solo and chamber music for oboe

Workshops offer: Oboe tone aesthetics, Oboe reed making, Orchestral excerpts and preparation for orchestral audition

František Novotný

  • received first prizes, laureate titles and special awards in more than twenty international competitions, he is a  prize winner of the Italian Radio Prize and TV company RAI as well as a  medal of H. Wieniawski
  • collaborates with leading symphonic orchestras in the Czech Republic (Prague Philharmonia, Czech Philharmonic, Prague Symphony Orchestra FOK, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, Brno Philharmonic) as well as abroad, performs in outstanding concert halls in Europe, Japan and the USA (Carnegie Hall, etc.)
  • records CDs for Czech as well as foreign labels, co-operates with radio and TV companies (Czech Radio, WNYC – New York, WAMC – Albany, NHK)
  • a professor at the Faculty of Music, JAMU, and at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Bratislava (Slovakia), regularly teaches at master classes (Czech Republic, Japan, the USA)
  • a  jury member of many national and international violin competitions (e.g. Prague Spring, Kocian Violin Competition, Telemann Competition – Poznan, Ernst-Szymanowski – Wroclaw and others)

Tuition description

The active participants will take individual violin lessons. Besides, there will be a seminar with discussion on methodology.

The following problems will be worked out: ability to concentrate, tone imagination, function of the right hand and its tone making, bowing techniques, hand synchronization, function of the left hand, adequacy of the choice of repertoire, exercise habits during home preparation.
